A unique combination of instruments sets the tone in the first half, which centres around a new work co-commissioned by the Festival by Iranian composer Aftab Darvishi. Dance With Me Under the Fallen Ruins is a beautifully evocative piece which celebrates the idea of hope and the resilience of the
human spirit in the face of adversity.
In the second half we hear Beethoven’s monumental 9th Symphony, his very final one, not in its usual orchestral version but in a two-piano arrangement by Franz Liszt. Beethoven takes us on a journey of struggle, of epic proportions – one which ultimately leads to triumph, joy, and an all-conquering jubilation.
Performed by Festival Director Anthony Hewitt, and Festival President Martin Roscoe, it will certainly be a resounding and uplifting end to the 21st Festival.
