Rutter Requiem
A concert presenting three choral masterpieces of the 20th Century in the glorious surroundings of Cartmel Priory. The Ulverston Festival Chorus celebrate John Rutter’s upcoming 80th birthday with his uplifting Requiem, a work infused with hope, solace and calm reflection. The concert opens with Rachmaninoff’s Spring Cantata, written shortly after the famous Second Piano Concerto, and the third choral work is Janacek’s Otčenáš ’of 1906, a serene setting of the Lord’s Prayer with an atmospheric accompaniment on harp and organ. William Alwyn, one of England’s most prolific composers, is also featured, with performances of three short instrumental works.
Concert supported by the Alwyn Foundation
