Using card as a basis for collagraph means that the shape of the print can be irregular, allowing for a more interesting starting point than a square or rectangle. You will be shown how to use various techniques including carborundum and cut and peel to create a printing plate in the morning, it will then be sealed ready to print in the afternoon. The plate will be inked using various colours at the same time. Intaglio refers to any printmaking process which involves making incisions or textures in a plate, so when the ink is applied and wiped off, ink remains caught in the marks made and creates the image. This is then passed through an etching press to create your prints. Bring images that interest you or use some of the images provided.
What you will learn:
• How to create a design, what to avoid
• How to create different textures on a printing plate
• How to seal plates for multiple prints
• Ink application a la poupee

Your Tutor: Penny Hunt
Penny is a painter printmaker living in the Dales who uses the wild and weather-beaten landscape around her for inspiration. Her work is semi-abstract, preferring to show the feel of a place rather than an illustration of a view. Her current work mixes interiors with loosely rendered views from her windows, adding more elements of pattern and still life to her landscapes.
